Sofjan WanandiChairman, APINDO

Mr. Sofjan Wanandi has been the Chairman of the Employers’ Association of Indonesia (APINDO) since May 2003. It is an independent, democratic and national-wide employers’ organization that addresses industrial relations and economic-related issues in Indonesia. Mr. Wanandi leads the Board of Management of APINDO at the national level which is based in Jakarta. With the leadership of Mr. Wanandi, the organization has been acknowledged as one of key stakeholders in the economic development in the country.

Mr. Wanandi also serves as a board member of the Regional Autonomy Watch (KPPOD), an independent organization that analyses the government’s economic-related policies in regions. In the beginning of year 2000, Mr. Wanandi initiated the establishment of National Economic Recovery Committee (KPEN) which provided the government, the parliaments and public policy makers as well as other sectoral business associations with valuable inputs including policy recommendations. Mr. Wanandi became the Executive chairman of the organization for a number of years.

Mr. Wanandi has also served as a member of Deutsche Bank AG Regional Advisory Board Asia / Pacific. He helps assess business development strategies and investments, provides advice to Deutsche Bank’s senior management and the Executive Committee of Deutsche Bank Asia/Pacific promotes and enhances the bank’s reputation in the financial services community.

During the terms of President Abdurrahman Wahid, Mr. Wanandi has the chairman of the National Business Development Council of the Republic of Indonesia reporting directly to President. In that capacity Mr. Wanandi sought to promote foreign investment and to restore the confidence of the business sectors.

From 1968 to 1974 was a member of House Representative and a personal assistant to the President of The Republic of Indonesia. He also served as a member in the upper House of Representatives known as the People’s Consultative Assembly from 1967 to 1987.
