About the ASEAN Business Advisory Council
The ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) was established by the ASEAN Heads of State and Government (HOSGs) at the 7 ASEAN Summit in November 2001 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. Inaugurated at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia in April 2003, ASEAN-BAC's primary mission is to promote public-private sector partnership in achieving the integration for the creation of an ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). ASEAN-BAC provides private sector feedback on the implementation of ASEAN economic cooperation, and to identify priority areas for the consideration of the ASEAN Leaders.
ASEAN-BAC members are appointed by their respective Governments comprising high-level CEOs of companies from each member country and representing by 3 members per member country. Government focal points, at the Ministerial level, have been assigned to assist ASEAN-BAC to fulfill its mandate.
In carrying out its objectives, ASEAN-BAC hold its regular meetings across ASEAN countries and engages in various ASEAN and national level-forums to meet up with Heads of State and Government, ASEAN Ministers and Senior Government Officials, business organizations, academicians and media representatives so that all stakeholders concerned have full understanding, acceptance and ownership of the ASEAN integration process.
Welcome Message
On behalf of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), I would like to extend my warmest greetings to all.
ASEAN has remarkably progressed with brilliant achievements since its establishment in Bangkok in 1967. Rapid events to increasingly function as a single market and production base have offered businesses with the opportunities that would not be found in other parts of the world. The private sector has understood that to remain global competitive, ASEAN cannot do without economic integration, but needs to build on an economy of scale to successfully capture the potentials. Over the decades, companies have grown to integrate at a much faster pace and are presently surging ahead to exploit the promises of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
The 2008 ASEAN Business & Investment Summit(ASEAN-BIS) on 13-15 December 2008 in Bangkok is held at a moment in time when we all share the exciting new era of high growth. Entering into its sixth year, the 2008 ASEAN-BIS in Bangkok continues to serve as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and relations network among regional and global businessmen. Featured with Keynote Addresses delivered by Leaders and private sector speakers from the region and beyond, the ASEAN-BIS has become the premier platform for congregation of private and public sector organizations, government representatives and captains of industry in the region. A limelight will be the winner announcement of the "Most Admired ASEAN Enterprises" of the 2008 ASEAN Business Awards (ABA).
The program of the Business Summit has been crafted with current economic state-of-affairs that I am certain will nourish your business with the knowledge to grow and prosper. Central to the Business Summit is the opportunity for interaction and networking for all delegates in the traditional atmospheric hospitality of Thailand.
Welcome and looking forward to seeing you at the 2008 ASEAN-BIS in Bangkok.
Arin Jira
Chairman, ASEAN Business Advisory Council
